George, a prudent central banker would have checked the speculation long ago. The recent market action does warrant a tough stance 0.5 rate hike however AG is not a prudent central banker he has presided over what has been perhaps the greatest expansion of credit in history and has revived the bubble when it began to burst only to create a bigger bubble ( LTCM bailout) and more recently Y2K liquidity orgy. Until his actions prove otherwise I am assuming that he will continue to support the bubble until it bursts of its own accord resulting in greater damage by prolonging the period of malinvestment and maladjustment.
