Cirruslvr,

Intels plans sure seem pretty agressive.

Hope AMD can keep up.

regards,

Kash

Wow,
Intel will release Willy at 1.4 not 1.1-1.2GHZ? Maybe they had to go back to the drawing board...? Hummm...I guess they figure 1.4MZ will be enough...Well, if they have to jack it up agin, when will Willy ever get released?
I'm wondering how Intel can get to 933MHZ by May on the Flopper when they can't even supply enough 800MHZ parts to Mikey D? You can bet they promised those few 933s to DELL too...and if they can't deliver that could be the last straw for DELL...but...
In the case of DELL, the saying goes...
fool me once, shame on you
fool me twice, shame on me,
fool me three times, shame on me
fool me four times, shame on me...
et cetera...

Jim

Cirrus - <Wow - 1.4GHz. Gonna have to see it or hear Intel say it to believe it.>

Will this do?

Cringe - Re: "4. Willamette and Foster speed up to 1.4GHz at introduction (was 1.1G and 1.2G)."

That is absolutely WRONG !!!

Don't you remember what your JaJaMan told you just a little bit ago ?

Cirrus and All, POSSIBLE BLOCKBUSTER...
I received information today concerning Williamette. I can't verify it yet but I'm working on that.
Anyway...this is what I've been told..it goes to the effect that...
The Intel sales force has let it be known that their new chip Willamette will probably not be available until 2001 ! Seems that they were supposed to have finished the design in January -2000 - but now are forecasting another slippage that may last 6 months or more. Seems that they don't think the new design will keep up with where AMD's ATHLON will be in 2000.
Well folks we'll just have to see how this precious little tidbit pans out...kind of makes sense since a 800 MHz Willamena wasn't gonna cut it....
BAM!

Cirruslvr,

<More info about Willy and Intel's roadmap -

From hardocp.com Go to the website for more stuff I didn't paste.

"1. Solano 2 and Camino 2 renamed to 815e and 820e.

2. 1GHz PIII will come out in Q3'99. 933MHz in June(was Q4), 866/850MHz in Q1(was Q2). These guys are stepping up the pace a bit!! Here is a page that shows PIII 800s already for sale over seas. Thanks Kim!

3. NO PIIIs will be produced without 133MHz FSB after Q4.

4. Willamette and Foster speed up to 1.4GHz at introduction (was 1.1G and 1.2G).

5. Intel will use Celeron processor to compete with AMD K6 and K7, ICP(Intel Celeron processor) will pull-in 600MHz in March, 633/667 in April and 700 in May. It will offer end user a system under USD999 and use the same frequency than AMD's."

Wow - 1.4GHz. Gonna have to see it or hear Intel say it to believe it. >

As good as this may sound compared to previous Intel roadmaps, this is not going to do it - unless AMD has massive execution problems.

Chuck

P.S.: To be sure, Wilamette will probably be pushed more than 1.4 so I am not at all writing it off.
