RESEARCH ALERT - Kent Electronics raised
NEW YORK, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch said Thursday it raised its rating on shares of Kent Electronics Corp. to long-term buy from accumulate.

-- Raised fiscal 2001 earnings per share estimate to $1.05 from $0.95.

-- Said upgrade was due to Kent's contract manufacturing unit, K*TEC, being awarded its largest contract in history.

-- Said the three year large-scale system build contract is worth about $200 million in annual revenues ''once fully ramped'' in third quarter of fiscal 2001.

-- Said it suspects the unnamed customer is likely Applied Materials Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMAT - news).

-- Shares of Kent were up 2-7/16 to 27-7/16 in Thursday morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
