>"We are the only real CRM vendor in the world," Ellison recently claimed in a newspaper interview.

Siebel to name CFO

Siebel Systems plans to name a new chief financial officer by summer, the fast-growing software company's chief executive officer, Tom Siebel.

"About 100 quarters at a public company is enough," said Siebel's outgoing CFO, Howard Graham. Under Graham's watch, the company (SEBL) grew to nearly $1 billion in revenue run rate.

Siebel declined to name any potential successors to Graham, saying the company is currently looking at several candidates. Graham doesn't have plans to take a full-time job elsewhere.

Separately, Siebel threw out a novel investment strategy in front of the assembled crowd of institutional investors: He bought $50,000 worth of stock in companies that have bought his products. The portfolio returned 68 percent last year, he said.
