Re Pre-loading software
I remember a comment by Dell concerning a new method of
installing software on the hard drives which took only minutes, which at that time (about a year ago) required up to 8 hours for a complex order. May have been partially pre-loaded stuff. But typical of Dell to reduce the time on the burn-in racks which was around two hours.
With the Metrix facility producing 8000 units per day(more now),
thats 16000 unit/hours on the rack ( they have a LOT of racks)
its an area where Dell can continue to get more efficient in computer production.

Do the motherboard come with the processors and SDRAM in them?
It's build to order. The quantity of memory and speed of processor is up to the customer. The problem I see with pre-loading software on disks would be that the software also varies, (some people buy NT others Windows 98 others have proprietary software from the customer). Then what happens if the disk drive tests bad. What would be used as a replacement?
