Hunter and Thread,

re: HP and Kodak KV

The Kodak kiosks currently accept floppies, CD's and CF cards.

It sounds like Kodak is taking digital photography seriously. They hear a loud munching sound in the distance. It is Canon, Lexmark and Epson eating their lunch. For example, I printed a 200kb file (original resolution 1600 x 1200) last night on my Epson Photo Stylus 750 with dimensions of 8x10 and it is indistinguishable from a photo lab. This is not an exaggeration.

I am buying my consumables on line at a substantial discount to retail including twenty 4x6 photo sheets @ $4.25 a package and a photo quality cartridge capable of 50-60 color 4x6 prints for about $14.00 and foresee many fewer trips to my local developer.

Hunter and Thread,

Kodak, H-P in Digital Photo Joint Venture

dailynews.yahoo.com

Seems that the main thrust is to process film digitally and use inkjet printers rather than making traditional prints. Also mentions processing digital pictures but does not specifically refer to CF or other flash media.

I was listening to NPR in my car yesterday and the segment called "Future Tense" came on. The moderator spoke specifically about this Kodak/HP JV and the fact the consumer will be able to take their "memory card" into a convenient location and print selective photos as one sees fit.

I wish we could hear "CompactFlash" any time someone speaks of "memory card" in reference to digital photography. CompactFlash is now a proven solution and a de facto standard.

In short...

AOL + Time-Warner + EMI = SD Memory Card
Kodak + HP = CompactFlash
SanDisk = Gold
