that is in the back of my mind as well.. any investment demand for gold at all and the commercials could quickly turn long...

Congrats on your bond call! I am simply flabbergasted by the collapse in rates which is not justified by the fundamentals in any way. Guess derivative activity and the need to bail out some hedge funds is overwhelming the fundamentals at this time.

A bond rally like this would not have surprised me after a 10-15% drop in the market and/or a sharp drop in oil prices. But with stocks hardly off their highs, oil soaring again, and even gold looking a little better today -- fundamentals would seem to have little to do with this rally.
