Bernard,

I would be remiss if I didn't point out, in deference to your comment, that Mr. Gilder relentlessly gives credit to other people and "material which he draws from."

I obviously can't speak for him, but speaking for me, he surely has, as you say "been right on in the area of optical networking," and I don't know that he HAS failed to mention your Paul Green(I'll take your word for it- assuming you've scoured the GTR for this acknowledgement). If that alleged omission disturbs you so be it, but I certainly am not disturbed by what I see as his thoroughly adequate acknowledgements of many many individuals whose work leads him to his conclusions(which he has admitted readily in individual cases, are sometimes wrong).

If you truly intend to imply that Paul Green's influence is Gilder's little secret, well, let me just say I believe his good character is well above such chicanery. Assuming perhaps a mere oversight has taken place, then I still doubt Paul Green is an island in these matters, let alone one conveniently forgotten by MR. Gilder toward the end of acquiring personal credit for another's ideas. I believe he generally goes out of his way to give credit where it is due.

Dan B

George Gilder's website has links to recommended books, including one by Paul E.Green's "Fiber Optic Networks". Gilder has acknowledged his appreciation of Green's work on many occasions in previous writings.

So criticizing Gilder for not giving credit to Paul Green is clearly incorrect.

Hi Bernard,

Another poster informed me privately that Ultracom is
alive.

At the risk of getting us in trouble with the Gildies (again), I wanted to make sure you had seen the following. If it's true, I would say that Terayon finally will have the technology lead they have been claiming!

Terayon in talks to buy Israeli firm

JERUSALEM, March 14 (Reuters) - Terayon Communication Systems is negotiating the purchase of
Israeli technology company Ultracom for $60-$70 million in a share swap, the Yedioth Ahronoth
newspaper said on Tuesday.
