Jim - <At least AMD doesn't seem to have a problem with production/yield.>

[Sigh].

I know the production numbers. They are essentially on track.

And currently Intel is trying to squeeze the blood from the turnip to get the situation more palatable.

I don't like the availability situation either, but it should be much better by the end of the Q.

Jim - Re: "At least AMD doesn't seem to have a problem with production/yield"

AMD does have an inventory problem with the Athlon processor. Make a million in Q4 and end up with 40% of that in inventory.

Athlon prices are dropping like a rock in the grey market because of the large inventory overhang.

In the meantime, Ford announces a plan to provide to provide internet access for its employees using 300,000 HP PCs with Intel processors.

Re: "At least AMD doesn't seem to have a problem with production/yield."

They sure don't !!

AMD was able to produce 1 Million AthWipeys last quarter - and were quite fortunate to find customers for 800,000 of them.

Couples with the 250,000 leftover Wipey's from Q3, AMD has a comfortable 450,000 Wipeys in inventory, as they rolled into the new Millennium.

I wonder how many will be left over at the end of this quarter ?

HMMMMMmmmmmmmmm.......
