I don't think they disclosed the terms, but it's pretty safe to say they paid less than anyone reading this post will ever pay! Yes, other VC stocks are on a one-way trip upwards lately, that's no coincidence. Here's a quick list of anything even mildly related to Net VC's I know of:finance.yahoo.com Funny you should you mention the political connection, which I've openly agreed with you about in the past. The other day I asked my mom, who is Japanese, what a "zaibatsu" and "keiretsu" was. She doesn't know much about business, she never heard of the latter. But when I said zaibatsu, she mentioned that they were a nice source of income for politicians. Whether that's true or not, I thought it was funny. Keep in mind these are two separate organizations competing in a similar market. Despite my initial surprise, I wasn't shocked. Flip is friends with Wetherell. When Yesmail.com (which is Chicago-based and might be part of the DVIN zaibatsu) was bought by CMGI, a local news article quoted someone (I believe someone from CMGI) as saying the Flip helped the deal go through. I'm not quite sure about the extent of any other cross-pollination. There are some zaibatsu/keiretsu collaborations which wouldn't be shocking (Sequoia and Softbank or Vulcan Ventures and Trans Cosmos) and those that would be (KPCB and Sequoia). [BTW, Sequoia Capital the Silicon Valley VC, is not related to Sequoia Software, one of DVIN's most promising holdings] CMGI + DVIN made some sense. I can't remember if it is CMGI (I think it's that Flycast guy) or ICGE (which itself has an umbilical cord to SFE) or both that have people on DVIN's board of directors. However, I find it unlikely that Softbank would jump headlong into DVIN's zaibatsu, despite the power of the cartel. We are in the second inning of the ballgame. We'll see many more keiretsu and zaibatsus develop. The "consolidation/shakeout" amongst them isn't around the corner yet. Incidentally, I wonder if Softbank is p*ssed off that DVIN trademarked "internet zaibatsu" despite the fact Masayoshi Son has used that term for years? DVIN will be an explosive IPO, perhaps it'll even outshine webmethods. :) - Netconductor.com >>George,...Holy cow indeed! I wonder what CMGI is paying for their 4.9% stake in DVIN. I'm convinced that DVIN is going to be well connected politically and Federal Laws will be tailored to their needs. I think this will wind up helping Softbank and possible CMGI too. Will Softbank take a stake in DVIN before the public IPO? They only have another month <G>.
