I think that is a very good point. So if Microsoft was going to use the Athlon how much effort do you think that they would have already put into optimizing drivers? Do you think that chipset driver optimizations play at all into the Win98/NT performance disparity that Tom saw in the KX133?

I agree this is a BIG deal.

The real benefit will likely be that MSFT will probably support x64 extensions which AMD needs desperately together with better AThlon support.

Sounds like a win win even if AMD has to sell a few million/qtr at cost plus 10% or so.
