twister,

I wouldn't trade any of my three homebuilt PCs or my Solaris/Intel box for a SunRay. I would like to have a SunRay would you buy me one.<g>

When friends call crying or threatening suicide I sometime help with their PCs. Highly intelligent people with professional career just don't understand anything about the whole concept. I know a Ph.D. Computer Scientist, head of programming for a major manufacturer, who couldn't troubleshoot his way out of a PC problem to save his life. Nicholas Negroponte, the head of MIT Media Lab and former Mac user, last I knew still maintained his bafflement about PCs.
I say it takes three qualities to understand a PC:
Enough intelligence
Interest in learning
Inclination to spend the time to figure it out. Not a lot of people have all three.

As our "main man" Scott says, "what OS is on your phone or your cable box." You don't know, don't care and don't have to know. When the major tools we use PCs for are available over the network for free and work transparently to the user, the PC is DEAD!

Sunrays are for connection to a 100MBs LAN -not a dialup modem - so their not an option here.
