Hi! I'm in need of a network "WIZ" here, hope someone can help. I'm trying to network 2 desktop and 1 laptop. I have 3 Linksys NIC card 10/100 full duplex and 10/100 hub 5 ports with auto detect. At the beginning I tried to connect the 2 desktop with the hub and the best I could get was 1 hrs to transfer 120 megs One PC is a 166mmx Tyan Mobo 64m RAM with the latest bios upgrade. The other is P3 500 128m Ram Abit Mobo BE6. All my PC run dual boot win98 and win 2000 rtm and I have the same problem with any of the system. So I tought there was a prob with the hub, and I when and got a cross over cable and I got the two PC connected together and sure enough it worked OK and 100 megs transfer it's fast, it's like having your other pc inside the one you're working with. I'm sure I have everything configure right, cause I use the 166 for server since all it does is store data and connect to the net with a phone modem. I have net share setup right too, cuz I can connect remotely no problem. I also tried the laptop with the cross over cable and it works fine too with any of the pc. I figured it as to be the hub so I went and bought a new hub and 3 new patch cables just in case one of them was no good. I made sure everything was working right before I shutted all the pc off, and removed the cross over cable, then reinstalled all the new patch cable to the hub and restarted everything. Still don't work, I tought by having the 2pc and laptop connected at least one of the pc would see each other but no!!! Now What? my configuration must be right since any 2 pc can work together and modem share. Is there something different between a cross over cable and 2 patch cable and a hub in the middle that the pc's as to know. Well I hope I give enough info for someone to help me out before I run out of hair on my head. jnb Thanks!!
