>>PSU's new recruiter

Since veteran defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky announced he would retire following the 1999 season, Penn State fans have been wondering what impact his departure would have on the Nittany Lion coaching staff.

Head coach Joe Paterno scheduled a press conference for Wednesday afternoon to announce the changes, only to delay it until later in the week. But some pieces of the puzzle appear to be falling into place.

It has been assumed for months that secondary coach Tom Bradley will replace Sandusky as defensive coordinator. Now, BWI has learned that former PSU defensive lineman Bob White will join the staff, most likely as recruiting coordinator.
Reached at his Boalsburg, Pa., home Wednesday evening, White neither confirmed nor denied the report.

"I'm not in position to comment on that at this time," he said.

White is currently an assistant athletic director at Penn State. He letter ed for the Lions from 1983-8 6, and was one of the defensive standouts on the 1986 team that won the national championship.

How this impacts the rest of the staff remains to be seen. Jay Paterno was the recruiting coordinator and coached tight ends last season.
We will report further developments as they are uncovered.<<
