What do people think about what happened today:
@20% of float traded hands, mostly down.
I think people are concerned about the early lock up release.
Scarcity is what drives these IPOS.
I don't remember who said it, but do you know for sure that the lock-up shares will be privately placed?
Also, going back earlier in the thread: what is the proof that MCI and MSFT got shares at original offer price. I believe that is against the law unless it closed before the price was raised.

Brian,

Apparently the market has discovered it, too!

APA Optics jumps 50 percent to 52-week high

CHICAGO, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Shares in fiber optics company APA Optics Inc. <APAT.O> rose more than 50 percent to a 52-week high on unusually heavy volume on Monday.

A spokesman for Minneapolis-based APA said the company had not released any news since last week, when it introduced a new device designed to expand wavelength band.

The stock was up 18-3/4 at 54 in afternoon Nasdaq trading, after climbing as high as 64. The 52-week range is 3-8/16 to 39-8/16. More than 800,000 shares had changed hands, which the spokesman said was the highest volume he had seen.

"We haven't put anything out in a week or so," the spokesman said. There has been "more focus on the company (because) that sector of the market is being highly sought-after at this point," he added. "More and more people have been discovering the company."

He pointed to last week's initial public offering of fiber optic company Avanex Corp. <AVNX.O>, which soared 375 percent in its debut. Avanex was off 14-9/16 at 157-7/16 on Monday.

The spokesman said he did not think APA's stock gain was related to news that Lucent Technologies Inc., <LU.N> the world's No. 1 telecommunications equipment maker, had agreed to buy optical networking company Ortel Corp. <ORTL.O> for $2.95 billion in stock.
