Spal,

Any opinion on AOL wanting to buy out the rest of AOL Europe from Bertelsman? Seems a little strange to me,
when I think they should be focusing their attention on integration issues with TWX.

Your thoughts?

My opinion on this is not much. I agree with you that they should keep plotting strategies and disucss about eventual merger. But they may not be in such a position yet. There have n't filed any detailed information with SEC, FCC, FTC, DOJ and hence they may not be doing it right now.
But as for Europe, it may be a preemptive strike against Freenet, today's Rueters noise, Mannersman and some French outfit etc. They want to consolidate their position to get a better deal with NOKIA and Ericcson on wireless access front. I am not sure what the status there regarding Cable or DSL based BB. The key seems to be to get them hooked to their network and then leverage later. I am not sure it will always win, but that has been the history in computing or any otehr technology for that matter. People like changes but they hate when they have to actually do it.
