The problem is, at this point, less the Palestinians than the ambitions of Iraq and Syria, the tensions between Sunni and Shi'ite, and the Kurd situation. The reason for pressing a solution to the Palestinian situation, besides good will, is that such a solution will permit Israeli cooperation with Egypt and Saudi Arabia under US auspices, the first move toward a sort of Middle Eastern Nato. If the ambitions for a Greater Syria can be checked,Syria might come on board, and further isolate Iraq. If Iraq could be dealt with, Iran would no longer contemplate a challenge to Saudi rule over Mecca and Medina. If Iran could be induced to greater diplomatic involvement, it is possible that a comprehensive solution could be achieved for the Kurds (with Turkish cooperation)....I am terrified of Arab cooperation as long as the Arab League calls for the dismantling of Israel, by the way, and I would prefer the current situation to such an eventuality. But I would prefer a movement to overall reconciliation, such as the one I outlined above, much more.....
