SIM Rivals Plan Open Unified GSM Standard
RDSL
08 February 2000
Orga Kartensysteme, Schlumberger, Giesecke & Devrient and Gemplus, all SIM rivals, have set up the SIMalliance to jointly develop an open unified standard for GSM operators and phones.

The co-operation is designed to speed up the launch of WAP-based services as all four firms have been developing proprietary standards for putting browsers on SIM cards.

They hope other smart card makers will join the alliance.
