well dave,

i haven't seen that kind of thing happening before. and it is normal for there to be activity in the location you noted at the bottom of the browser window. but let's look at your cache settings.

click on edit, preferences, (+)advanced, cache...

what are the numerical values there for both memory cache and disk cache? mine are set at 1024 and 7680 kbytes respectively. i believe these are default values. if yours are different, it will do no harm to change them just to see what happens.

next, take a look below the cache settings at the three settings pertaining to how often the document in cache is compared to the doc on network. the middle option ('every time') is selected on mine. again, feel free to change these settings to see if it makes a difference. remember to click 'ok' after change.
