It simply is not true that you buy shoes to keep me happy. You do it to keep you happy. My wife, too, had this shoe thing. I do understand the nature of the obsession. I'm sure your husband is sympathetic and forgiving about this.

On the other hand, your record keeping habits and dumping disorganized paper tidbits on him at tax time is inexcusable. I understand his distress. What I am unable to comprehend is how manages to restrain himself and calmly reproach you when confronted with this debris. My wife did the same to me every March. I regret to inform you that it sent me into a screaming tantrum lasting for days on end, every year. Your husband is a good and decent man even if he can't fix things, other than your tax return.
