They also screwed up Dell who sells to high end bleeding edge folks. Folks typically buy very large percentage of leading edge stuff from Dell. Couple that with the rambus fiasco and Intel did a number on Dell.

Sure would be funny if Intel repeats this fiasco again

All I know is that this fiasco is causing M. Dell to pork out.....few days ago he was on tv and I thought it was chipzilla in a suit.

They say when you hang out together you begin to look like each other. I guess that's true.

kash - <Do you think Intel will do another vapor release.>

kash, I know I keep beating this to death, but remember that monotonic curve I keep telling you about wrt to capacity? Every day that passes, that line is moving up and to the right at a fairly steep rate. Whatever Intel releases, I expect there to be a bin split to support it.

Kash - RE: "Do you think Intel will do another vapor release."

Yup. They launched 800 in December and Dell still can't... so why should Intel stop there?

The funny thing is Intel may "release" 850 and 866 when there are some customers who haven't received their PCs when they ordered the 800 some time ago!

"They also screwed up Dell who sells to high end bleeding edge folks. Folks typically buy very large percentage of leading edge stuff from Dell."

Too bad Dell doesn't offer AMD as an option like Gateway does.

"They [AMD] may launch the 850 and announce the 900's for delivery within 30-40 days."

Well, if they were Intel they would go ahead and "release" the 900 also! ;)

<I sure hope Otellini is in charge of the Intel response team again.>

Otellini's judgement on the 800MHz was clearly a ill thought out one. Marketing 101 says you don't compete on opponents turf. MHz is currently AMD's turf. Intel's reputation will take a big hit if Paul O continues with the bogus releases.
