Dear DE:

I do believe that the great majority of us think war sucks.

I can find no purpose, motivation, rationalization in your need to document the fact that war sucks. Lengthy and horrid that your anecdote may have been, what did it add to the pot?

Your Dr. Hal, himself, says he doesn't do parades and shopping centers. He seems to carry an appropriate amount of disgust for his own experiences. It does not seem he seeks to glorify the events he has lived through. He blandly states them as examples of absurdity, of inhumanity (a very eely word).

Were he to walk down the middle of a crowd-lined street, I have the idea that the crowd would most appropriately lower its collective head, and share and convey a sense of awe, conscience, sadness, compassion, regret, and horror. Not, my bucko, scream its lungs out with firecrackers and flags.

I find your attitude somewhat belligerent. Maybe that explains your odd reaction to my position that war should be, if anything, rued and regretted - rather than cheered and cherished.

PS: Rinse, if you are reading this. I, seriously, admit that I trivialized the exchange we were having. The petty words I issued were more petulant than persuasive. I also got taken away, a bit, by the charming concepts of the Powerful and their Plumbing. I apologize for having lethally damaged what could probably have been a fun bout.
