Richard and all:

I've noticed that many put option symbols are not recognized by Schwab's Web site. For instance, I wanted to sell CMGI Jun '00 $65 puts (GCBRM) today. The Quick Quote at the bottom of the screen recognized the symbol, and gave me a quote. However, when I entered an order, I got the following message: "This security symbol is invalid for the requested type of transaction. Please verify the symbol."

This has happened several times, so I finally got frustrated and called up my team. They guy I talked to said it had to be set up by hand if the option had not been traded at Schwab before. I asked him why I wasn't able to trade any option listed on the CBOE, and he said he didn't know the reason. Does anyone know if this is standard brokerage practice, i.e. thinly traded options have to be entered manually and aren't automated? Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, what did you do about it?

Thanks, Adam
