That's a real Hobson's choice for them, though. Either way, their stock could be pounded.

QS - yes it is a very familiar scenario. A year ago I thought that Intel would just bring merced out as a "development platform" and shift early production to McKinley - but that's not what they did, and now most of the OEMs are well down the road towards merced product launch. It's a little late for Intel to pull the plug now.

That's part of the reason that I doubt McKinley will be accelerated - if that was likely, they would have stayed on course to have a token merced product. Merced may still have a life in the market of 18 to 24 months. I think everyone is committed now, come hell or high water.
