I am positive that he was not being devious with his comments on the call, he just hadn't thought out his response to a buyback question very well, he could have phrased it slightly differently and had a different effect. That said, the stock probably still would have gone down, given the ongoing difficulties in the sector. The desktop sector will likely never be a high margin sector, because high margins will just attract more capacity. But it could still be a decently profitable sector, if the managements of the companies involved would allow it to be so. They need to give up their visions of possible high margins, accept the sector for what it is, and make a decision to be in it for that or not.
