James:

I've been a lurker on this thread since inception, and I've been an active CIEN trader for several years. The stock has been very good to me and the info extracted from this thread, especially your posts, has helped. It's now time to give something back.

My strength is technical analysis smoothed with market analysis, fundamentals, and industry savvy. My trading strategy follows that of Bill O'Neil, and I never take or give tips, with the exception of do your own homework - it takes lots of homework to succeed.

Here's my read on Bittner's post:

This stock has been a coiled spring awaiting the binds to be cut. It is one of the few quality pure plays, and undervalued at that, in the internet picks & shovels area, which is where most of your risk investment capital should be.

The TLAB abortion created a golden opportunity to load up. If you had the vision and chutzpah, you did, without hesitation. Very few money managers lack the cojones and the mandate to take this risk so they follow the herd. The herd is now stampeding into this stock, witness the volume.

The previous intraday high was 92 3/8 on 7/21/98. This is a very significant resistance point, and represents the bind that holds back this stock. This bind has been broken, and the pent-up energy will be released. Of course, technical analysis is just a probability game, so that's the caveat. Look for the stock to hold above this level.

Also, note that the talking heads always, always qualify a stock's major move by news and rumors of any sort. If the stock moves contrary to the news - no comment. IMO, stock movement is primarily affected by the technical action over the short term, and fundamentals over the long. Most journalists lack technical skills and fail to acknowledge the power of technical analysis. You would not drive into an unknown area without a map, so why would you ever want to invest hard earned capital in a stock without carefully reviewing the charts.

In summary, we had a major breakout yesterday. If it holds, this stock has plenty of upside.
