re: internet tax. I agree with your position. We have an opportunity to not screw up this growth engine. I won't get into a political discussion on this thread but should point out that I don't like My Current Computer And It's New features because it leans so far left upon close examination.

I don't know about other states, but WI has a use tax. If you purchase an item from out of state and it is shipped to you in WI and it would have been subject to WI sales taxes, you are required to report it and pay a use tax on the item. The use tax is the same rate as the sales tax and is supposed to have the effect of equalizing the purchase.

So is the internet a sales tax haven? Only if you are cheating and not reporting your use tax...at least in WI.

Now I ask you, do we need more laws, or should we just enforce the ones we have?

Seems clear to me.....legistalors are elected to write laws, therefore, they must do their job and create more of a quagmire rather than concentrate on what is currently in place.

>Question:
>What is your position on the current moratorium on >Internet sales taxation?

It should stay.
I make no distinction between purchasing items through
a 1-800 number and the internet. For decades,
you've been able to purchase things sales tax-free
via mail/phone order using catalogs. Shopping online
is no different, except it's a little easier for some
people, and a little harder for others. JC Whitney
hasn't put the local Kragen out of business.

Bob seemed to be really messed up (confused) on this
issue. Sometimes I think he's a little out of the loop
regarding ordinary issues (ala the former president
marveling at grocery store scanners).
