I listened with interest when the guy responsible for collecting these taxes here in Taxifornia (CA) was on a talk show. He pretty much said that nobody paid them and that they did not have an enforcement arm to get the funds and that it would be very costly to track down people to see if they were importing goods from out of State and not paying taxes. My wonderment... Why don't the Indian reservations open WalMarts, car dealerships, etc and skip the sales taxes all together? It works for tax on smokers.
