stockbull, your objections are a little unreasonable in my opinion. You're asking why DELL couldn't have forseen and managed problems that were not theirs to control. AMD produces a nice chip but I'll assume Dell gets better prices from Intel for their loyalty and volume. They could probably add AMD as a supplier, I don't know the details of their contracts. As to why bet on Rambus, why not? Had it worked out you'd be singing their praises for vision and managment prowess.

This is a dead end discussion on why the future didn't materialize like they hoped. I feel they will learn and capitalize on this error of predicting technology. Remember that every company has to make bets on the promises of unproven technology. If one were only to chose from what's known, one couldn't be a significant player.
