JMac, consider the months since April to be a state of war
intercontinental technological war
the spoils are profits, via customers
huge stakes, huge spoils

Europe resents the JohnnyComeLately Qualcomm
in all fairness, Ericsson and Nokia truly accelerated the worldwide adoption of wireless phones
Europe resents the utter absolute and total dominance strutted by the USA
for a decade Europe thought they had established dominance in the wireless telephone sector
ooops, wrong again, forgot to create the next generation
when it comes to technology, nothing but nothing stands still

it will be fun to watch Europe squirm in wireless data backwaters in coming months

key fact:
European corporations did almost nothing to advance the technology, only the adoption and usage

correct me if I am wrong, anybody

on Microsoft: finally the new battleground for Microsoft is the server space, with Sun the competition running its very reliable Solaris Unix software... we will be seeing Microsoft's true competitive weakness displayed in glaring style for all the world to see... Windows2000 is the upgraded WindowsNT, again bloated, buggy, and late... now add lacking compatibility with the networks!!!

with the monopoly on the desktop, MSFT thumbed their nose at the market and said "buy it and shut up"... cannot do that with quite the cocky bravado anymore... Windows98 had at least 2000 bugs in its initial shipment... MSFT has repeatedly used their customer base to provide beta testing on the fly AFTER shipment, for God's sake!!!... MSFT has NEVER competed on a level playing field... Microsoft reminds me of AT&T in the old 1970's... the big question for me is "where is MSFT's hidden Lucent?"... my best answer is "scattered across the landscape as startup CEO's and top engineers, having defected already"

hey Dealer, are you married? do you give pedicures?
