Kash, <I think Intel is DELIBERATELY trying to starve the market of low end cumines and nudge the sweet spot higher to keep margin in shape.>

Then why did Intel even introduce the FC-PGA "Socketmines" at 500 and 550 MHz in the first place? Seems to me that if Intel wanted to starve the market for low-end Coppermines, introducing 500 and 550 MHz speed grades wouldn't make any sense.

<I see 800Mhz parts being SUB $200 next quarter to OEM's.>

I think you're basing this conclusion on an extremely optimistic picture for AMD.

kash, RE: "Imagine what happens once AMD is yielding at a 800Mhz-1Ghz sweetspot with dresden."

Everything has changed, hasn't it. AMD will execute with precision going forward, no mistakes, no delays, no cost over-runs. Intel, on the other hand, will have lousy execution, they won't be able to get out faster chips, they will have production problems, they won't be able to supply their customers.

Forget the past, everything is different now.

Enjoy,

John

That is going a bit far, don't you think?

<This will be an Intel NIGHTMARE trying to balance ASPS, margins, volumes etc.>

This is where I think Intel has done a phenomenal job in my view. For the last two quarters Intel has been slowly choking off the supply at the low-end. Glad that AMD has the capacity to pick up that slack.

Intel may be able to pull this off for one more quarter if demand stays good otherwise Q2 and Q3 could become nightmares for Intel.
