re:"why is intel introducing FC-PGA 500-550 cumines"

I don't know.

Perhaps STUPIDITY.

I have assumed that intel is yielding north of 600Mhz with its 0.18 micron. If they are truly yielding a large split in 500-600Mhz speed grades - Intel is DEAD.

The latest 550's that are opened up show Athlon 750's being DOWNBINNED to 550.

Either Intel IS WAY behind AMD in bin slits or they are trying to play footsie with differing market segments.

They have tens of part numbers and packaging options making manufacturing management a major problem.

I hope for your sake that the bin splits are good.

And once Andy gets involved and kicks barrett/otellini they will fix the part number issues amd marketing BS.

regards,

Kash
