While the clothes were possibly/probably destroyed, the same would not be as likely with the shoes. The dog hairs would have rubbed-off/fallen-off (of shoe soles and, likely, clothes) in the "mob mobile."

Well, if the car was stolen they might well have disposed of it as well. However, that's neither here nor there as we do know dog DNA was found, be it on clothing, on shoes, in a car, etc. I think we both agree the most likely source was dog hair and having had dogs just about every year of my life when I lived at home I know exactly what you mean about overfriendly dogs jumping in your car when you arrive, jumping up to greet you, rubbing against you, etc. I visit my mother and it takes half a day to remove all the dog hair from my clothes (g).

One interesting "clue"(?) is that the trunk to Lehmann's rented car was open. If a car drove up while Lehman was packing, and two men emerged in a cordial manner, I'd think they'd have shook hands, Lehmann would have closed the trunk, and they'd have all gone inside. I'm more inclined to think the killers lay in wait until one person emerged from the house... although, granted, unless they knew they didn't have long to wait it is hard to imagine two hired killers twiddling their thumbs waiting in the bushes so to speak. On the other hand, I suppose you could argue that had they rung the doorbell or tried to force their way in, they risked one of the inhabitants dialing 911.

In any case, it's very possible the dogs did greet the killers, as dogs are known to do, and the killers brushed them aside and started shooting which scared the dogs so much they ran upstairs. However, then we have to explain why someone apparently dripped blood upstairs in various rooms. My thinking was that the killers didn't ring the doorbell or knock, surprised Lehman while he was packing the car, forced the men back inside where it would be quieter to shoot them, shot them, heard something stirring upstairs, went to check and dripped blood, saw it was just the dogs, and that was that. Otherwise I can't figure out the dripped blood upstairs. The only other explanation is the killers were just doing a routine check of the house for other people or looking for something, both of which I doubt.
