Chris, listen to radiowallstreet link (post #16983), about impact on RBOC and CLECs recent FCC rulling.
THis presentation is not investment oriented, but rather about indusry trend.
However ALA and NN and others (not TLAB)are mnetioned as primary beneficiary.
RBOC will accelerate they investment starting in second half of 2000.
You may ship first 10%. ALA and NN are mantioned in about
1/2 of presentation.
Basically, if RBOC will invest in new packet infrastructure(and they love ATM vs. pure IP)
they do not have give access to CLECs for free.
If CLECS will get eccess to new infrastructure it will operate almost on zero margins.
This rulling does not involve old (telephone) infrastructure.
With new rulling RBOCs have assurance that they investment will pay off, and this is why Pronto Project by SBC was announced in fall 99.
Bell South announced also a la Pronto and Bell Atlantic will do the same.
There is not questions that sales of ATM switches will accelerate and those companies who can provide the best for
large carriers soluions will be w winner.
50 gig/450 are perfect for xDSL, and 50 gig is the best on the market(tests at SBC,BT and others are going very well....).
---------------------
Looks like ALA/NN combination can be(?) very, very good, but again it is only spaculation.

With FCC ruling on RBOC's NN could wanted to wait until the
FCC ruled on how things will be on RBOC front.

This obviously makes NN a more valuable company to a suitor/partner in the market for ATM, which got big push with by FCC.
