Hi Frank, I am in complete agreement with your comments and concerns. I must admit, the events of the last six months have me shaking my head. I just can't figure out what MD and his team are trying to do. Oh well, that's the way it goes.

The challenging transition to W2000 is old news (written about for many months in Computerworld, and widely understood, as well as widely misunderstood because of the name Windows 2000 which is confusingly similar to W95 and W98). Sometimes headlines attract attention, but it's still noise. I doubt if MSFT thinks MSD's comments were out of line.

BTW Linux captured 25% (units not $) of the Server OS market in 1999:
