Good questions, I don't know either. Yesterday I convinced a friend who moved to a nearby city that he needed to get ATHM service. I'll try to get him to do it ASAP with me present. We will inquire about self install. I would like to try self install. If no self install, I will try to find out why not available and what is the problem.

Someone on the board probably already knows the answer to these questions.

Self-installation?

Unless your computer comes with network card pre-installed (which I doubt), you have to open boxes and plug network cards into slots. It will be a big headache for most users.
Installation difficulty is mostly on hardware side.
