I certainly agree with many of your points. I just want to point out what often seems to be a simple extension of a current business can be a mine-field. The software products of TLC appeared to be "similar" to the games/toys sold by MAT. MAT was horrified to discover that retailers who had taken delivery of TLC products before Christmas returned unsold products. Oops: a different business practice.
It is very difficult to manage a business that is significantly different from the one you've cut your teeth on. A new CEO wo understands the software/games market can (perhaps) turn this around, provided he/she doesn't sacrifice the "Barbie business" that brought MAT to its current strong marketing position.
