Personally, I would prefer 256 of SDRAM to 128 of RDRAM. But as I hold RMBS calls, I think you should compromise and buy 256 of RDRAM!

Seriously, buy RDRAM if you must squeeze that extra last bit of performance out of your high spec system. Otherwise spend the money on upping the amount of RAM.

In terms of obsoletion, I wouldn't worry about that happening to either type of memory for a while. You could buy RMBS now and be confident of adding more later at lower prices. I always prefer to buy a system where all the parts are well matched and then replace it wholesale rather than upgrade piecemeal.
