(NYSE: ADI - news) today announced at the Intel Developer's Forum the highest accuracy remote thermal diode monitor and the most complete thermal monitor and fan controller integrated circuits (ICs) for Intel© Pentium© and Celeron(TM) processors. These new thermal management ICs provide a complete range of solutions for desktop PCs, notebooks, servers, central office equipment and medical equipment. The new products, the ADM1023, ADM1029, ADM1030 and ADM1031, offer the highest-performance converter technology for increasing system performance while reducing overall costs. All are Systems Management Bus (SMBus) compatible and Advanced Configuration Power Interface (ACPI)-compliant. These new ICs increase system performance by reducing the error budgeted due to remote thermal diode monitoring accuracy. ADI's ADM10xx products provide unprecedented fault tolerance because they can operate in concert with the system BIOS and ACPI under normal conditions and these advanced remote thermal monitoring ICs can aid the system software in the event of system failure and still provide reliable fan control. About the ADM1023 With accuracy of +/- 1 degree Celsius, the ADM1023 is the world's highest accuracy remote thermal diode monitor. It has a two-channel digital thermometer and under/over temperature alarm, intended for use in PCs and other systems requiring thermal management. The device can measure the temperature of a microprocessor using a diode-connected PNP transistor, which may be provided on-chip in the case of the Pentium III or similar processors, or it can be a low-cost discrete NPN/PNP transistor such as the 2N3904/2N3906. A novel measurement technique cancels out the absolute value of the transistor's base emitter voltage so that no calibration is required. The second measurement channel measures the output of an on-chip temperature sensor, to monitor the temperature of the device and its environment. About the ADM1029 For use in personal computers, servers, network hubs, test and measurement equipment or any system where reliable control and monitoring of multiple cooling fans is required, the high level of integration of the ADM1029 incorporates a dual-channel versatile fan controller and remote thermal monitor. Each ADM1029 can control the speed of one or two fans and can measure the speed of fans that have a tachometer output. The device can also measure the temperature of a microprocessor using a diode-connected PNP transistor, which may be provided on-chip in the case of the Pentium III or similar processors, or it can be a low-cost discrete NPN/PNP device such as the 2N3904/2N3906, allowing fan speed to be adjusted to keep system temperature within acceptable limits. For enhanced reliability, the ADM1029 has fault inputs for use with fans that can signal failure conditions, and inputs to detect if fans are connected. About the ADM1030 and ADM1031 The ADM1030 and ADM1031 are single-channel and dual-channel (respectively) remote thermal monitors with a unique programmable and automatic fan speed controller, for use in notebooks, PCs, microprocessor-based office equipment and other thermal management systems. For notebook or portable applications, the ADM1030/31 fan control loop minimizes acoustic noise and battery consumption. A PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) fan control output controls the speed of a cooling fan by varying output duty cycle. The dual-channels of the ADM1031 provide the ability to control two cooling fans for systems requiring this feature. In addition, the ADM1030/31 also offers the same +/- 1-degree Celsius accuracy that can be found in the ADM1023.
