bhagavathi, Re: Solaris is gaining popularity but HPUX has an advantage on IA-64. Interesting to see who will stand out in the end. Maybe both the OSes will flourish on IA-64, through Linux into the mix, the margins on Solaris will be
vaporize.

Hmmm. Do you think HP could have been unhappy with the idea of Solaris on IA/64?

IDF keynote will be interesting, to say the least. Always eager for tomorrow's news.

Mula - re: "If small players can provide hardware (IA-64 boxes), Linux with value added software to make it internet server backbone?
What will that do the internet server market?
Where will SUNW be?
Maybe Scot sees this coming."

You're right - McNealey sees it coming - but he's closing his eyes and that way he doesn't get scared.

Of course, when he gets around to OPENING those eyes, he may see his train has left the station.

Re: "interesting battle shaping up. Already trends are appearing on the horizon. By the way competition reacts & conducts itself."

The battle will be a slow one - and I don't think the outcome will be known for about 24 months.

SUN may do all right at that time, but my bet is that Intel/IA64 will be a LOCOMOTIVE picking up a head of steam at that time, pulling hundreds of freight cars behind it.
