that is a great response, Rande. i've never heard of lptha, so i'll look into it.
do you have an opinion on avnx? they claim a stunning, simple, elegant technology: separating the odd-even channels, claiming (i say claiming) they can go to 1200 to 1500 channels (40 is common today, and next gen is 160), that the can clear the noise caused by those packed channels, simultaneously causing the lightwave to travel 1500 to 1800 miles w/o regeneration, and that woth so may channels they won't need switches but will connect each pair of major cities directly (e.g.: ny to la, ny to chicago).
jack hutchinson, who tells me he is an optical engineer, says this is BS.
have you any take on this?
