Paul and thread, a friend of mine is wondering when the 840pci controller chip set is going to be shipped to the motherboard makers?

Have you heard any recent news?

Sorry if its been posted, I haven't been able to keep up with the thread lately.

Thanks, Michael

Paul, it appears SUN is straddling the fence with Itanium: publically supporting it yet devoting most of their resources and telling their customers Sparc is still the way to go. What strikes me is that Intel wouldn't make such a strong public statement unless they knew they had a strong hand. I wonder if SUN will change their tune soon and more activily support it (as you said they have a 1-2 year time frame even after Itanium is released before they will get hurt).

This reminds me a bit of HP's endorsement (or lack of) Itanium. Remember several months back, an HP manager basically said they will not support Itanium and would wait unitl McKinley since their PARC chips would be sufficient for the next couple of years. HP seems to have changed their tune since then...

Congratualations Paul, PB, Tench, Elmer, Burke, Amy, John F., Cory, Windsock and the rest of the Intel longs on the long awaited demo of the Willamette. I know just enough about chip technology to know that Intel has designed a spectacular chip.

Not that the Athlon is a slacker but the Willamette definitely has notched up the competition.

Good luck.
