Clarifying Moment Ok Merlin, now I see what you mean. You are positing that the HDTV/set-top box agreement would be a critical indicator of the formation of Gemstar's value chain, and thus a defining moment marking its progress through the TALC. Moreover, it would be precisely the kind of moment we should all be looking for with regard to the companies we follow, since it is so obscure an event that only we will be able to appreciate (and thus act on) its true significance. Fine. That makes eminent sense to me. Since I trust you and Stew implicitly on all GMST/TALC questions, I will eagerly await your announcement of this event, and sleep more soundly about my GMST investment. And since it may happen very soon, that is indeed very good news. (I somehow got the impression you were talking about something a long way off, further out than those other indicators.) But that's my point: I already have a substantial GMST investment, as do many if not most of us here. You and Stew convinced us long ago that stuff like this would happen. That changes my (our) perspective somewhat. In the fall I was looking for reasons to invest in GMST. Now, having done so, I'm looking for things that will spur other people to invest in GMST, thus bidding up the price of my shares to obscene heights. In short, you (as is natural, being you) are still concerned with the actual gorilla game, while by now I (as is natural, having those friggin calls) am concerned with the perceptual gorilla game. I assumed your original post was talking about the latter, when in fact it was about the former. tekboy/Ares@allesistjetztclar.com PS Re RMBS: there's an old French expression to the effect that "a scalded cat is afraid of even cold water." I'll consider investing there when both Snas and uncwest get back in... :0)
