Talking about covers....about five years back I was listening to "Fresh Air" on NPR and I heard a song by Irma Thomas. I didn't know Irma from nothing. Apparently she was (and is) a very popular New Orleans area songstress, dating back to the late 50's early 60's. The song was "Time Is On My Side". Her version predated the Stones. The Stones heard her version and covered it....guess who got the bucks? The interesting thing is not that it was covered, but how close the cover was to the original...arrangement etc. I've always liked the song by the Stones but Irma does it just as well and maybe better?
