Uncle

Not

Hands down technically SI is a much better site .....the only reason those sites may get more hits is they are free .
As SI begins to license their SI technology to sites like NBD there will be plenty more posters here....ultimately SI being the best site technically to use should win out...it remains unclear to me whether SI might ultimately be free...for instance those 200000 folks over at NDB look like they are going to get free membership I would suspect.

F*#K that press release Uncle A.......that's the reason I pay for SI is so the only useless posts I have to read on the threads are my own.

Of course you are gonna get more posts when the service is free and open to every baffoon on the net....I just love wading through a sea of rhetoric to get one tidbit of useful info on RB or Yahoo....NOT!

GNET has plenty of revenue from ads and doesn't need to sell its soul to get more people to post.....They still get the eyeballs for the ads when people log on and read for free.

They should have #'s regarding how many people read the posts (and thus, the ads), not #'s on how many idiots it takes to fill a volkswagon.

Press releases like this are total bullsh*t IMO, but I still love you Uncle Auric.

regards, brk

Auric and All~~

....wondered where that article was published?? Also thought your comments below were true:
"You get what you pay for"....and "why argue with a fool...no one will know the difference..."

Couple of comments and questions re SI....
1) Again, is SI a "pulp paper" or a "slick glossy" type of content (magazine i.e. True Confessions or Town and Country)?

There is a market for both.... All one has to do is look at www.thelion.com to see an overview of 4 message boards....SI does seem to have fewer posts, but by and large, these comments seem to be more thought out, more entertaining, and a good deal less rude and offensive. I for one, not only don't have the time to wade through the juvenile posts, nor have I any inclination to sit in the gutter and even look at most of them.

2) I do wonder though....since one of the advantages of SI's boards is that you can access 10 messages at a time, are these counted as ONE or are they counted as TEN.....???

3) I thought I read somewhere that the entire web traffic was down since November.....Is there a way to actually check this???

I did find by checking Metacrawler, we could access several places, but thought someone might know the actual number of visitors by month to the Internet....and how many actually visit SI, and of those how many actually post.

search.metacrawler.com
"Web Site Traffic" -- some places on Metacrawler

In serious defense of SI, the key is that you get what you pay for. Part of the game on the other boards is that when
the touts trying to run a stock see a post they do not like, they quickly generate 40 messages to map over it. SI
limits this sort of inane behaviour.

As well, the IQ on those boards is decidedly lower by an order of magnitude. So the question becomes, why argue
with a fool, no one will know the difference.

If the part about lawsuits is true, the SI operating committee made a BIG mistake in disclosing posters names without first giving them notice and a chance to fight disclosure like AOL does.

And in the end, we all know that the scams that FBN mocked as well as the real ones that Floyd has exposed are causing individual investors to loose substantial amounts of money, if not the majority of their retirement funds. And meanwhile the SEC plods on, underfunded, overworked and overpoliticized.
