And I always love to revisit this "oldie" (2/4) but goodie about 3Com licensing sw to Msft to be included in every copy of Windows 2000. None other than Bill Gates was on CNN Moneyline this evening saying that Windows 2000 was the most important product Msft has brought to market since Windows 95. siliconinvestor.com

I can understand your position that it might be higher than $20 but the fact is that it was not much higher than that when it held a $30B asset known as PALM. So my thinking is simple, if the market didn't value COMS with PALM its certainly not going to value COMS without PALM.

Tim, I have a feeling that the company has reinvented itself

I had that feeling a year or so ago when EB said "we have turned the corner and will see the results of our investments in Cable, DSL, VOIP, YADDA YADDA YADDA..." Problem was that there was yet another corner ahead. The past QTR results showed problems in yet another core business (systems). They can't keep having problems in all their core business and expect to succeed. Also remember that they cautioned for the current qtr in last qtr conf call. Float will be going up too, so remember that in your calculations.

According to you the company is only worth $20 a share, well if that was correct that leave us with a market cap of $6.8 billion. Now how in God great name is that possible if their liquid assets are more than $6 billion dollars.

while i think you over-estimate some of their investments, specifically JNPR, these still do not prove a company worthwhile. Like I said in my other post, if they do well investing then they should pay a dividend to shareholders.

I expect the market to undervalue 3COM (1X - 1.5x Rev) until they prove beyond doubt that they have substantial income and revenue growth over a period of time. Therefore we could see a price of $14 - $21.
