I owned ATI a few years back and haven't looked at them for at least two years. I've also seen William's comment that a gorilla (or a strong king) does not look at the calandar, and consider it correct. If YOU see something compelling at ATI that the rest of us ought to know about and you just can't keep to yourself (being the good guy you of course are...willing to SHARE your graphics IP), then I'm not going to put the brakes on you.

Hows that for a "go get 'em, Tiger"!

RE: ATYT
Personally I do not belive that ATI, NVDA, 3dfx nor S3 can ever qualify for Gorillahood because their position in the value chain relative to the old Silverback Intel.

Yes I know Intel made a mess of the last attempt at 3d, but all Intel has to do is change a slot or two and the vid card mfgs go scrambling for new designs.

The vid card market is a mess. My suggestion is that this fine thread could spend its time on other more profitable sectors.

I quick re-read of chapter 3 of the RFM will explain why this market (vid cards) will produce no gorilla, no DI.

Smacs,

ATI is currently THE leading graphics card developer for PCs supplying DELL, IBM, Apple, Gateway, etc

What about Matrox?

ATI I am fairly aware of the competitive issues involved
Intel seems to have a strong interest in graphics controllers. They are not the strongest in that segment, but they have staying power and the ability to set the interface standard to the CPU. It could be tough for any graphics company to be in control of their own destiny.
