RE: ATYT

That's true, Drew...in the PC market. While ATI is tops in the PC graphics industry with 31% market share, you're right about Intel's control and the unlikelyhood of a Vidcard gorilla in that game.

I'm more interested however in it's prospects in the set-top and E-appliance markets. This market is in no way a forgone conclusion and since consumer electronics don't have "card slots", at least not yet, OEMs are free to choose the best solution.

Earlier this week, Sony did just that for their set-top box choosing ATI to supply graphics and video components for THE LIFE OF THE PRODUCT.

Also, Intel has had an extremely difficult time cornering the market on mobile computing. Another area where ATI has made great inroads as of late (as evidenced by, again Sony's choice to use ATI in the VAIO mobile unit).

TV/PC convergence is another possible tornado where ATI has existing solutions that are being adopted by developers.

...And while I'm nearly certain that flat-panel displays won't provide a Gorilla opportunity for ATI, their excellence in the field will definitely benefit them as the tornado takes shape.

I've started a HUNT PROJECT on ATI (actually I'm completing it, since I actually pulled together alot of the information shortly after I read TFM).

I'll hopefully have something to report in the next few days regarding ATIs status as a potential Primate/Royaltee.

Thanks for the feedback, Drew...it keeps me thinking;)
