Without reading any of the subsequent eruption here, I imagine there's a certain amount of mockery about me citing the NYT on Mena. So, just for laughs, I'll give the guys a more "reputable" source, one that looks to be more in the mainsream of the supple and complex intellects that the guys favor. The first one that came up on google.federal.com When a C-123K military cargo plane crashed in Nicaragua on October 5, 1986 with weapons and CIA employees on board, it unraveled what became known as the Iran-Contra scandal. The weapons were supplied by the CIA and destined for the Nicaraguan Contras in possible violation of the Congressional Boland amendments. Special prosecutor Lawrence Walsh spent six years determining who in the Reagan administration was involved in the operation. Among the prime operatives were George Bush, Oliver North, Dewey Clarridge, John Pointdexter and Caspar Weinberger. What few people considered at the the time, however, was that the training of pilots and loading of weapons took place at the little town of Mena in Arkansas. Nobody asked about the involvement of the governor of Arkansas. Today, that governor is President of the United States, and people have started asking what involvement, if any, Bill Clinton had in the Iran Contra operation. Of course, if you read further on that link, you'll find plenty of detail on how Bill Clinton was actually running Iran-Contra. Heck, somebody had to be running it, George Senior was "out of the loop", and the old man didn't seem to be awfully cognizant of what, exactly, was going on either. Just another episode where Starr demonstrated his manifest incompetence in investigating all the rumors. Have fun, guys, no point saying any more here till Sunday, see if W can stage a comeback or if there's massive wailing and gnashing of teeth by the Republican establishment at the failure of the anointed one to use his $70 million well. It's all entertainment to me, a lot more entertaining than I ever would have hoped for a month ago too. Cheers, Dan.
