Bob, I'm not to worried about ALA...it won't fall far. This is a long term keeper in my book...will probably leave it to my kids<g>. Picked up 30 more NN Mar 40 calls at 1 1/4. Probably should have bought 35's but awfully nervous market. Will be looking to unload all 40 calls early next week.

UBB, I suspect they'll be easily outbid on the Banespa bank sale unless they partner with someone big. In my mind, that'll make them a prime, and I mean prime takeout candidate. Not buying yet, but keeping close eye.

regards,

sf

ÿÿÿÿ I went ahead and picked up a few NN March 40 calls for the heck of it.

ÿÿÿÿ Steve- I think it was you that asked me a month or two ago about a possible NN-ALA deal?
ÿÿÿÿ At that time I believe I said that ALA publicly said
ÿÿÿÿ they weren't interested. I'm not sure if I mentioned it on this thread,
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ but apparently ALA is changing their answer to, "No comment."

ÿÿÿÿ As I think about it, a NN-ALA makes sense. An ATM Switching specialist
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ with a huge installed based of Mainstreet switches in both North
ÿÿÿÿ America and Europe makes sense to Alcatel. Who I kind of/sort of consider to be
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ an access specialist. Those Mainstreet switches can be turned
ÿÿÿÿ into mini-DSLAMs. Something ALA may be interested in. But they do overlap substantially in LMDS.

If they do join together, it may put downward pressure
on ALA because few on Wall Street have long term confidenc in NN.

ÿÿI don't happen to feel as negative about NN as most investors do,

but NN does have a history of disappointing and failing to execute.
NN has said they have aÿ couple of big ATM machines coming out soon, and this may also interest ALA.

ÿÿÿÿ And
ÿ
in a maybe not so minor note,

I believe being located so close to the Quebec border,

there just may be a lot of French speaking personnel on
ÿ
NN's payroll.

That has to be a big plus in a merger with a European player.

ÿ
Oh well, just my quick $.02 and definitely in the FWIW category. -MikeM(From Florida)

Also this is his post on last mile technologies which is of interest to NN shareholders:

Steve. I think ALA/NN has the last mile copper (ADSL) to fiber backbone connection stuff down pat, and nobody else
does. All the RBOCs need this solution to offer DSL. I think once people see what is going on, ALA will rally back into
the 50's (unless the market falls apart etc). I think there is a lot more to this than meets the eye.

PS: Out of UBB until the mid May bank sale/auction situation is rec\solved. Nice earnings!
